World Day for Prevention and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence 2022.
On November 18th, in recognition of the World Day for Prevention and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Violence, we organized a significant walk to the Nairobi County government office and the National Assembly. This day, set aside globally to raise awareness and promote healing for survivors of child sexual exploitation and violence, provided an essential platform for us to demand stronger protective measures for children in our communities.
The walk, which brought together 250 people, including representatives from various organizations, dedicated activists, lawyers, human rights defenders, government officials, community health promoters, healthcare workers, and, most importantly, survivors of sexual violence. Each individual carried with them a deep commitment to the cause, adding strength and urgency to our collective call for action.
Walking to the Nairobi County government office and the National Assembly, we presented our petitions to key government representatives, including the Deputy Governor, James Njoroge and the Women Representative, Esther Pasaris. These petitions called on the government to implement strategies and allocate resources specifically aimed at combating child sexual violence. We emphasized the need for immediate and sustained action to protect children and ensure their safety and well-being.
The walk was a clear declaration that we will not stand by while our children are at risk. By bringing together such a broad coalition of supporters, we demonstrated the widespread commitment to this cause and the collective power of our voices. This event was a significant step in our ongoing advocacy, but it also highlighted the work that remains to be done.
